New Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!

slt_cover.jpg

Show Me Music favorite, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! have two new songs to download from their website. These are both songs from their new CD “Some Loud Thunder” to be released in January, and both are tasty little morsels.

[MP3] Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – Love Song No. 7
[MP3] Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – Underwater (You and Me)

Underwater (You and Me) is actually something that Alec Ounsworth recorded with Flashy Python and posted on his former website (www.flashypython.com) – which is no longer in existence. Luckily, Show Me Music has the track:

[MP3] Alec Ounsworth (er, Flashy Python) – Underwater (You and Me)

If you want something you can actually clap your hands (and say, “yeah”) to, check out their Myspace site for the mastered version of “Satan Said Dance.” That’s more like it…

¡Forward Russia! – Live in Kansas City – Win Tickets!!!

forwardrussia_01.jpg

¡Forward Russia! will be bringing their UK – style of dance punk to Kansas City’s Record Bar on Friday (December 8th). To sweeten the deal, they’re playing with Show Me Music favorite Snowden (see earlier post).

¡Foward Russia! is very hot right now. Their new cd “Give Me a Wall” is getting a lot of attention. The whole CD is full of dance-punk energy and, from the sounds of it, their live shows are a must see for any fan.

From Filter:

“Give Me A Wall is searing and energetic, a statement of intent. Anyone witnessing the band live (on their brief sneak attacks into the USA – playing SXSW, NYC, LA and SF) will have seen a sharpening of this sense of purpose. Confident and focused, the band have brought a thousand ideas together and produced an exuberant record that sets out their intentions.”

Show Me Music will be at the show, but I’d like to give away two (2) tickets and an autographed copy of their CD to someone who would like to check the show out (courtesy of Filter). Just leave me a comment stating your favorite live show in the Kansas City area in 2006. I will choose a winner on Thursday morning.

Have a listen:

Snow Day!

snow-day.jpgWell, the Kansas City metropolitan area is covered in a blanket of snow marking the first official snow of the year – and the first official snow day. Since I haven’t posted for awhile (due to some exciting developments to be revealed in 2007) I thought I’d post my two theme songs of the day.

Enjoy.

New Shins!!!

shins.jpg

I’m so excited to finally get to post this. The new Shins disc “Wincing the Night Away” will be out January 7, but now you can download their new single, “Phantom Limbs.” This song is going to make everyone remember why they love The Shins, and perk up the ears of new fans. Be prepared to be frustrated in February when people start asking you if you’ve heard of The Shins.

Enjoy.

Can Joann

cjbeach.jpg

I don’t know much about Can Joann. Their guitarist, Ryan Benjamin emailed me with a nice note and a couple of tracks. I have to say I am impressed. I’ve really been waiting for the next DIY band to come on the scene and give me something to look forward to. Can Joann is that band.

Can Joann is from Chapel Hill / Raleigh, North Carolina (yes, North Carolina is the new Montreal for upcoming artists). They made the scene with an EP in 2005 and have since recorded a full length entitled “Hurt People Hurt People.” They’re getting a lot of press these days, so a tour can’t be far away. Look for them coming to your area soon.

Listen to these tracks, then head on over to iTunes and purchase the disc!

The Changes

changes1.jpgDo you ever wonder what The Cure would sound like if they had more of a Steely Dan influence? Yeah, me neither. But, The Changes have somehow made me think of these two bands simultaneously. The Chicago band has released their debut album, “Today is Tonight”, to some pretty high praises. While there is nothing groundbreaking here, the album is great for good upbeat (somewhat “pop-y”) music.

Their song, “When I Wake”, is the standout in my mind. It starts of with some strange carnival sounding organ piece, but quickly moves into the meat of the song. The rest of the disc moves through Morrissey, the Police, and the Cure (and Steely Dan). Check it out.
